If you just look around

You do not need an account to see what is on. We do not ask who you are, and we do not use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. Nothing is loaded from other companies’ servers when you open a page.

Our servers do not keep a record of who looks at which page. Your IP address is used while your request is handled, and to limit how often anyone can send a message, a report or a sign-in request; that count is held in memory and is not stored. The servers do keep technical logs of faults and events, which are cleared when the service is next updated.

If you sign in

There are no passwords. You give us your email address and we send you a one-time link. We keep your email address and the date the account was made. The sign-in links themselves are kept only briefly.

The emails are sent for us by Resend, an email delivery service, which handles your address in order to deliver them.

If you follow artists, venues and festivals, we keep the list, so that your gigs page, your calendar and, if you ask for it, a weekly email can show what is coming up. Your calendar is an address only you know; whoever has it can see which gigs you follow. If you tell us where you are, by picking a place or by pressing the button for your current location, we keep that place (a current location is rounded to about a kilometre) and use it only to show you gigs near it. You can change or clear either at any time, and both are in the data you can download and go when you delete your account.

The weekly email

It is off until you switch it on, on your account page. When it is on, we send you one email a week with the gigs coming up from what you follow and near where you are, and only when there is something to tell you. Every one has a link to stop it, which works without signing in. Switching it off, or deleting your account, stops it at once.

If you report a problem

We keep what you wrote and, only if you give one, your email address so that we can answer. We delete the email address as soon as the report has been dealt with. The message stays, without your address, so that we know what was changed and why.

If you write to us

If you use the contact form, we use your name, email address and message to answer you. The form sends them to our inbox by email, through Resend; nothing is kept on the website itself. We keep your message only as long as we need it to deal with it.

Cookies

a4p sets one cookie, and only when you sign in. It keeps you signed in, which is what you asked for, so it needs no consent and there is nothing to accept or decline. We use no other cookies and no other storage in your browser.

What is on a4p

The gigs, venues, artists and festivals are facts: names, dates, places and links, gathered from public websites and other public sources. They are mostly about businesses and performers, not private people. If something about you is wrong, or you would rather it was not here, see Corrections and removals.

Other sites

“Open in maps” goes to OpenStreetMap, and other links go to sites run by other people, each with its own policy. Nothing is loaded from them until you follow the link.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to take it with you.

If you have an account you can do the first and the last two yourself, at any time, on your account page: download your data, or delete your account. Deleting it removes it from the live service straight away.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Why we use it

Your email address when you sign in: to give you the sign-in you asked for. Logs and reports: our legitimate interest in running a secure, accurate service. We do not sell data or share it for advertising.

Changes

If this changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything that asks more of you will say so before it starts.
